ChemWeights
Necessity is the mother of invention, and in this case "necessity" is "not wanting to waste time on my chemistry homework". In chemistry you constantly encounter situations where you need to know atomic weight of a given molecule, typically as a small factor for a much larger problem. The trouble is, adding and multiplying these weights is tedious at best. Tedium is the enemy of the computer scientist. We automate things. ChemWeights was written in Ruby, originally as a command-line app which I've given a web front-end so that it may be shared with the world. Instructions are available on the page.
